WELLNESS CENTER
The YMCA’s state of the art Wellness Center feature up-to-date cardio, upper body and lower body strength strength equipment and weight machines and free weights. The is a track that surrounds the perimeter of the Wellness Center.
Whether you’re just getting started or looking to intensify your workout the Y makes it easy to exercise in a welcoming environment featuring top-of-the-line cardio equipment, weight machines, free weights, stretching areas and an indoor track. We have a knowledgeable staff of certified professionals and trainers on hand to help you reach your fitness goals.

AQUATICS CENTER
The Aquatics Center features five swimming lanes, a children shallow area with water features and two water slide tubes. LED lighting was installed A new pool deck was put on in 2019. Lifeguards are on duty during pool hours. Private Swim Lessons are available by appointment.

CHAPMAN CENTER
Hugh Chapman held a host of roles in Atlanta — most notably as a key executive with what is now Bank of America and was instrumental in making the Chapman Center possible. Opened in 2012, the Hugh Chapman Center has been a valued community resource. The Chapman Center’s main open hall with metal shutters was remodeled and enclosed in 2018 and repurposed as a safe place for Youth Programs.
The Chapman Center sits on a property a short walk from the YMCA on Hospital Drive.
JOHN M. BLACKBURN INDOOR ATHLETIC FACILITY
John is a native of Avery County and has spent his adult life in service to the community and the state. He, and other community leaders are the driving force of bringing a YMCA to Avery County. He has served on the University of NC Board of Governors and the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees and currently serves on the Appalachian Regional Health System Board of Trustees, the A.M.Y. Wellness Foundation Board of Trustees, and the YMCA’s Board of Directors.
The Blackburn Indoor Athletic Center opened in 2019 to provide expanded healthy living and recreational opportunities in our community, especially in the hard winter months. It features two high school regulation gymnasium basketball courts, volleyball, pickleball, indoor soccer and more.

PAUL O’CONNELL FIELDHOUSE
Paul and Susie O’Connell are long-time supporters of the Williams YMCA of Avery County, as well as many other worthwhile projects in the region. The couple has received many honors, both individually and as a couple.
The O’Connell Fieldhouse features two golf simulators, batting cages and adjustable pitching machines for either hardball or softball and a functional fitness area.

ARTHUR YOUTH CENTER
Glenn and Carol Arthur have been both close friends and long-time supporters of the YMCA and many other causes in Western North Carolina, both through their personal gifts and through their family foundation.
The Arthur Youth Center features several classrooms for students to complete homework, STEM, Art, and other enrichment projects during out-of-school time programs such as Summer Camp. Additional large group spaces allow students to congregate for meals, educational movies, and group projects.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The Martha Guy Child Development Center serves children ages 6 weeks – 12 years engaging them in development activities while parents utilize the YMCA’s facilities. There is a 2-hour time limit for children dropped off in the Child Development Center. Martha Guy was a native of Avery County and lived here, except for her years at school. She was a tireless advocate for western North Carolina, including our YMCA.
